Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich delivered himself of a major speech on radical Islam at the American Enterprise Institute in which he warned about "creeping Sharia" making its way into the fabric of American law and culture.
Excuse me?
I do not shrink one iota from recognizing the threat that radical Islamicists pose to America. I recall watching the videotape of the beheading of Danny Pearl and realizing how evil this threat is. And, we all recall 9/11. But of all the threats to America, the possibility that Sharia will catch on and wiggle its way into the hearts and courts of America is about the most absurd proposition imaginable.
Unless, of course, you are running for the GOP nomination for President in which trading in anti-Muslim fear is as common as trading in anti-Latino fear. Gingrich, who is no dummy, should know better.
