Some sing and some witness

Common and John Legend’s performance of “Glory” at the Oscars was terrific. But one of the viewers, Alicia Worthington, spotted something astonishing, that the white members of the chorus kept their mouths shut. Watch it. Listen to the words. It’s a great performance. And see whites being present, being witnesses, but being quiet — not a role we play very often.
