When my clothes dryer broke down, I replaced it with clothes line strung in my garage. It took a while to get used to air-dried towels but I found out they make great back-scratchers and I don't have to buy dryer sheets — it's a win, win situation!
Aside from not owning a dryer, Margaret Nava of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, gave away her microwave, grows and preserves her own vegetables and turned her SUV into a camper.
